The Bulldog Downtown
1111 Hennepin Ave.
Status: Opens at 3 p.m. today
In a super-quick turnaround, The Bullfrog Cajun Bar shuttered on the 15th and is scheduled to reopen today as The Bulldog Downtown, the latest addition to a mini-bulldog empire that also includes The Bulldog Uptown and The Bulldog Lowertown (a fourth location, The Bulldog Northeast, has different ownership). According to The Journal Mpls, co-owner Jeff Kaster said that the Bullfrog was financially fine, but that he and business partner Matt Lokowich decided to bring the space in line with their Bulldog brand. The restaurant also announced its closing and rebirth on its website.
The Bulldog's burger and hot dog-focused menu will replace the Bullfrog's po' boys and frog legs, and the beer list—24 taps strong—will be changing, as well, moving away from the Bullfrog's pilsners and lagers for darker and hoppier beers.
The Bulldog Downtown is open Monday through Thursday at 3 p.m. and Friday through Sunday at 11 a.m. The kitchen serves the full menu every day until 1 a.m. and the bar closes every day at 2 a.m.
