Restaurateur Kim Bartmann—of Bryant Lake Bowl, Café Barbette, the Red Stag, Pat's Tap, Gigi's Café, and Bread & Pickle—has announced plans for a new restaurant, reports Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl at Mpls.St.Paul.Magazine. The new spot, named Tiny Diner, will be located a few blocks south of Powderhorn Park, representing a semi-significant move east for Bartmann, whose current restaurants are all clustered in Lake Harriet/Lake Calhoun area (with the exception of the Red Stag in Northeast).
Tiny Diner will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Continuing Bartmann's interest in green building, the restaurant will be affiliated with the Permaculture Research Institute, which will help design the restaurant's own gardens; Tiny Diner also plans to host classes in urban gardening on site. The restaurant will also be topped with solar panels. Construction begins on the 60-or-so-seat space in the spring, and Bartmann is hoping to open by late May.
