in what might seem an unlikely match, French Meadow Bakery & Café—Uptown's longtime purveyor of baked goods and brunch—has bought its neighbor, the CC Club—Uptown's longtime purveyor of late nights and whiskey on the rocks. Yesterday's press release, posted in full at the Heavy Table, said that French Meadow owners Lynn Gordon and Steve Shapiro bought the CC Club in a move to secure the strip of parking lot that lies south of French Meadow. (It was owned by the CC Club and leased to the French Meadow.)
But don't worry, Gordon has no plans to change a single thing about the beloved dive bar, she told Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl at Minneapolis.St.Paul Magazine. The only potential changes were both staff requests: refurbishing the jukebox and maybe adding a tuna melt and a daily hot dish to the menu. "I feel like I'm the curator of a piece of art!" Gordon told Grumdahl. "It's such a work of art. It's a cult, or a culture, it's important. It's not for me to tamper. It's not for me to change."
French Meadow will be undergoing other expansions as well, adding on a wine bar, Meadow Bar, behind the bakery space and also an event space, Nord Tasting Room.
