With today's official opening of brewpub The Freehouse, local restaurant group Blue Plate Restaurant Company makes its first foray into the North Loop. Owned by David Burley and Stephanie Shimp, Blue Plate also runs The Lowry, Longfellow Tap, Groveland Tap, and several other Twin Cities restaurants.
The Freehouse is their first brewpub, which will be brewing four house beers on site: a Kolsch, an IPA, a brown, and a stout. The first three are ready now; the stout will be ready the week of the 23rd. The menu is similar to other Blue Plate restaurants (the oysters and the steak and pierogies are two of several menu standbys), and also includes a section of "beer bites" and a section of "jars" (i.e. things that come in jars, like pork rilletes and bison tartare).
The Freehouse is open every day from 6:30 a.m. to 2 a.m.
