That most beloved of Minnesota breweries, Surly Brewing Co., has purchased a site in Prospect Park for its new, $20 million "destination" brewery, reports the Star Tribune. The 8.3 acre site is located at the corner of Malcolm Ave. and 5th St. SE, just north of what will become the "Westgate" station on the new light rail. The new facility will include a brewery, beer hall, and beer garden.
The brewery—known for such beers as Furious, Cynic, and Bender—is currently located in Brooklyn Center; the new Minneapolis location will be an expansion, not a replacement. Surly hopes to be open in Minneapolis sometime in 2014.
