Ideal Diner to Reopen With New Owner

Classic breakfast spot the Ideal Diner will reopen under new ownership, reports The Journal Mpls. The diner shuttered about two months ago, made official when then-owner Kevin Kelzenberg announced on Facebook that he was looking for a buyer.

According to The Journal Mpls, former Ideal Diner employee Kim Robinson recently bought the restaurant from Kelzenberg and plans to reopen it after a remodel. Robinson worked at the Ideal Diner for 23 years; her mother also worked at the diner, for 43 years. When her mother retired in 2008, Robinson also left the restaurant.

The remodel will bring a new, updated kitchen in the back and a "new clean look" in the front, Robinson told The Journal Mpls. Cooking will still happen on the flat in the front of the counter, as always.

Robinson said she plans to be open seven days a week until 4 p.m., and will possibly add dinner service eventually. There is no opening date yet.
