Sandcastle's Opening Day, Thursday at 6 p.m.

Welcome to our photo series Eater Scenes, where Eater photographers visit some of the city's great restaurants to capture them at a certain, and very specific, point in the day. Today, Sandcastle.

With the opening of Sandcastle, the Lake Nokomis dining scene just got a whole lot more awesome. The new beachside concession—with a menu by Piccolo's Doug Flicker, who co-owns the eatery with his wife, Amy Greeley, and former Piccolo employee Chele Payer—opened yesterday at 11 a.m. By the early evening, a small line had formed for dinner, and diners relaxed at the outdoor seats while waiting on fry bread tacos, cheese curds, and pitchers of beer.

Eater photographer Katie Cannon stopped by to capture the opening, complete with sunshine, octopus ceviche, and, in the kitchen, Doug Flicker himself. Below, take a look at Sandcastle on its first day of business.
