Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five choice dining events going on around the Twin Cities:
1) BaconFest
When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m
Where: The Lowry
What: Blue Plate Restaurants are bringing bacon, live music, bacon, games, bacon, prizes, and more bacon to The Lowry this Saturday. Ten bacon-featured dishes will be available including bacon cupcakes with peanut butter maple frosting, bacon-wrapped pork belly tater tots, and bacon zeppole to name a few. 2) Great Minnesota Food Truck Rally
When: Saturday, noon to 10 p.m.
Where: Harriet Brewing Company
What: The 1st annual Great Minnesota Food Truck Rally brings a dozen food trucks to Harriet Brewing this Saturday. Food trucks (including AZ Canteen, MidNord Empanada, Potter's Pasties, and Gogi Bros) will pair one menu item with one of Harriet Brewery's beers on tap, such as Wodan Weizen, Luv Jus, West Side, and Harriet's Pils. 3) Tour de Fat
When: Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
Where: Loring Park
What: New Belgium Brewing's annual Tour De Fat returns to Minneapolis on Saturday. Ride your bike to this free festival featuring performances, live music, beer, food, and more. Natedogs will be in attendance and festival goers can choose from ten New Belgium brews including Rampant, Ranger, and Shift. The tour will begin with a slow-moving, all-skill-level bike parade and then culminate with hours of live music and beer consumption in Loring Park. 4) Open Streets NE
When: Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Central Avenue N.E.
What: The second Open Streets of the summer takes place this Sunday in NE Minneapolis. The city will be closing a portion of Central Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis for an afternoon of food, art, live music, and other family-friendly activities. Look for Sen Yai Sen Lek, Holy Land, and Crescent Moon Bakery to be serving up food items along the avenue. For more info, click here.
5) Red Hot Art & Music Festival
When: Saturday and Sunday
Where: Stevens Square Park
What: Stevens Square Park transforms into a marketplace of Minnesotan art, culture, live music, performers, food trucks, games, and hands-on demonstrations for all ages. The two-day event is free and open to the public. Food from Anchor Fish & Chips, Cafe Racer, La Loma Tamales, and Tawakal Somali Food will also be available in the park. Also of Note: 612Brew is having their first ever beer dinner at Mason's Restaurant (Monday, 6 p.m). Riverfront Festival brings food trucks, Boom Island beer, and live music to a yet-to-be-named Minneapolis park (Friday, 6 p.m. to sunset). Dakota Street Fest brings live music to Nicollet Mall (Saturday, noon to midnight) complete with Summit beer and an array of hot dogs. The third annual Twin Cities Beer Fest is now being held at Canterbury Park (Saturday, 2 to 6 p.m.). Lucid Brewing is having a BFD (brewer for the day) party with food trucks, a hooka tent, and live music (Saturday, 4 to 8 p.m.).
