Eat Street's Tiki Bar Will Be Named the Torpedo Room

After the announcement last week that Eat Street Social's delayed tiki bar-within-a-bar will still open this summer, on Saturday co-head bartender Nick Kosevich revealed the tiki bar's name—the Torpedo Room— to Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl on her weekly WCCO radio show Off the Menu, along with lots of details on the drink menu.

The bar will feature an all-rum menu of 45 rums. There will also be an adult snow cone menu, and they may be resurrecting the adult malts from the now-defunct Town Talk Diner, where Kosevich once bartended. They will be opening to the public on September 3rd, but there will be some limited invite-only events in the week leading up to the opening that may be available to Eat Street fans on Facebook. While it was originally planned as a summer-only bar, they are now thinking they may keep the tiki bar open through the winter.

They're calling their tiki program "Minnesota exotic", which means, for example, that instead of coconut cream, they're making sweet corn cream, and instead of using pineapple and orange juice, they're using apple cider. He told Grumdahl that he's most excited for the Torpedo variation on the classic tiki cocktail Painkiller, which typically involves shaking rum, coconut cream, pineapple juice, and orange juice, with shaved nutmeg and cinnamon on top. At the Torpedo Room, a Painkiller will be mixed with that sweet corn cream and apple cider.

Kosevich also told Grumdahl that Bittercube—the bitters company he co-owns and that supplies bitters to many Twin Cities bars—will be hosting a speakeasy at this year's Haunted Basement at the Soap Factory.
