Followers of Minnesota resident and Bizarre Foods host Andrew Zimmern's prolific Instagram account will already know that the always-traveling, always-eating chef was actually in town (and eating) this past weekend. So, which Twin Cities spots got his Insta-nod (and presumably the Bizarre Foods nod, as well)?
The local eats started a week ago with Zimmern's own AZ Canteen at Loring Park. Next up, a couple videos from a visit to the guys behind Travail, featuring sous vide, chanterelles, and building a 10-minute pizza oven. After some foraged mushroom goat burgers, Zimmern headed to Gastro Non Grata's event at the Turf Club. Then it was off to beekeeping at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, followed by Bent River Camembert at Midtown Global Market, charcuterie at the Sample Room, and kombucha at Linden Hills Co-op.
A visit to Hello Pizza got two photos, one of a meatball sub (caption: "I do this once a week when I am home") and the other of a Korean Cowboy sub. Then, it was before and after shots (and a video) of Angel Food Bakery's bacon cro-knot and noodles at St. Paul's iPho by Saigon. Zimmern finished the weekend by spending Sunday at the fairgrounds for the baking day blue ribbon judging (complete with cameo by Minnesota baking legend Marjorie Johnson).
