Located in the former Azia space at 26th and Nicollet, Eat Street Buddha Kitchen & Lounge is carrying on the proud tradition of Asian "fusion" food. The restaurant and "lounge", which opens today at 3 p.m., will be serving sushi, hand-crafted cocktails, and—again that mysterious terminology—Asian fusion cuisine (think: short rib benedict and Mongolian beef tenderloin); there will also be a raw bar. Owner Mike Tupa also owns several locations of Wild Bill's Sports Saloon in the Twin Cities area. The 144-seat space (plus 26 patio seats) will be open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m.
Photographer Isabel Subtil stopped by to shoot the very, very red space, complete with bamboo wall art, tin ceilings, a pair of ever-present female eyes, and Buddhas galore. Take a look.
