Status: Opens at 3 p.m. today
This afternoon, Day Block Brewing—a pizzeria brewpub in Spill the Wine's former downtown space—officially opens. The concept comes from a team in the building's third floor web development and marketing business, Internet Exposure, led by CEO Jeff Hahn, who purchased the space when the Spill the Wine moved out. They hired on Joe Williams as general manager (formerly of Punch Pizza) and head brewer, Paul Johnston (previously brewing at Lucid Brewing and Harriet Brewing).
Day Block's menu items include salads, snacks, and specialty pizzas like the Banh Mizza, a banh mi style pizza with pork and pickled vegetables. They are also serving up rotating bacon flights, three different types of bacon with accompanying sauces, including a Mexican bacon with a chocolate porter mole and a double-smoked bacon with maple gastrique. Among Day Block's beer offerings, the brewery has six styles of beer on tap, three of which are year-round staples (Red Ale, Wit, and Porter) and three rotating seasonal beers, all of which are available to take home in growlers.
After a soft opening last Friday, Day Block opens today at 3 p.m. for its official grand opening but starting tomorrow, it will be open at 11 a.m. for lunch service. The brewpub's normal hours are Monday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
