The King and I Thai to Reign Again

The beloved restaurant closed in December of 2012, but will return some time in 2015.

It was a sad holiday season for Thai food fans when the beloved King & I Thai that after 32 years in business, the restaurant would close. Located on the first floor of an apartment building off La Salle and Grant Street, the restaurant was known as one of the most romantic dining destinations in the city, not to mention some of the best Thai food.

At the time owners, Gary Haanpaa and Chavhivan "Bou" Haanpaa said the reason for the closure was that the lease for the space had come to an end.

Hints began to drop of the restaurant's Facebook page came to life with promises of leasing steps being completed. Yesterday, this photo appeared:

The new restaurant will take the place of BC2 Coffee & Cake at 760 HIghway 110 in Mendota Heights.  No word yet on an expected opening date.
