Uptown's Rye Delicatessen & Bar—known for its smoked meat and its Yiddish-word-of-the-day specials—has shuttered, according to an announcement on its Facebook page and Twitter. After marketing itself as a "Minnesota deli" during its much-hyped opening in the fall of 2011, the restaurant received wildly mixed reviews. The statement on its Facebook page says:

"Terrible News: We regret to inform you that Rye Delicatessen & Bar is no longer open for business.

We are extremely grateful to our exceptional staff and all of the friends that we have made during this journey. Thank you for your support."

Minnesota resident and Bizarre Foods host Andrew Zimmern (who gave Rye a scathing review when it first opened and then upgraded the F grade to a C+ in 2012) had an immediate Twitter reaction to the shutter:

No details yet on why Rye closed or what will be coming into the space, which is located on the same block as the always-busy Burch Steak & Pizza.
