Stillwater ice cream institution Nelson's Ice Cream will be opening a St. Paul location in May, reports the Pioneer Press. The new ice cream parlor will be located at 454 S. Snelling Street, the former home of Palumbo's PIzza. According to the Pioneer Press, the ice cream store is known for its variety (more than 40 flavors), its "monster" scoops, and its even more monstrous sundae called the Lumberjack (five "softball-size" scoops of ice cream and toppings), which earns customers a photo on the Nelson's Wall of Fame if they can eat it by themselves.
The original Nelson's opened in Stillwater in 1923; current owners Dave Najarian and Bill Bergstrom have owned it for the past eight years. Najaran's son, Daved Najaran, will own and operate the St. Paul location, which is slated to open May 17.
