Last month, it was announced that a new restaurant called Public Kitchen + Bar will be coming to Lowertown this summer. Eater Minneapolis stopped in to check out the progress and get more information about the new St. Paul spot.

Public Restaurant + Bar is located in the Park Square Court building next-door to Barrio Lowerton and across from Mears Park. The 10,000 square-foot space is undergoing major renovations to not only transform it into a restaurant, but also to restore the history and heritage of the building. Wood beams, exposed brick, and natural light from the floor to ceiling arched windows will be featured prominently in the design.

The space is separated into two levels. The upper level is a full service bar and restaurant headed by Chef Greg Johnson (most recently executive chef at Kincaid's). His menu will offer modern, seasonally-changing, American food. The lower, lounge level will offer small plates and have a speakeasy feel to it featuring banquette-lined walls. Both levels will have full bars which will offer classic cocktails, unique wines, and local beers. No word yet on who will be heading up the beverage program.

Owner Carol March says she hopes to open the 180-seat restaurant early this summer for lunch and dinner daily.
