Vincent Creating Series of Tour de France Burgers in July

Photo: Trip Advisor

The sports world is all World Cup all the time right now, but another big international sporting event—the Tour de France—is coming up in less than a month, and downtown restaurant Vincent a Restaurant is readying for it with that most American of foods, the burger.

For the three weeks of the bicycle race, chef Vincent Francoual is creating a series of Tour de France burgers, themed to the regions of England and France that the race will run through. Beginning on July 5, each themed burger will be served during the corresponding days of the race (and the Tour will be playing on televisions in the bar, of course).

Here are the six burgers, with their corresponding stages, dates, and regions:

· Stages 1-3 (July 5-7)—Yorkshire, England—Wensleydale Cheese, Battered yorkshire pudding, and spiced rhubarb relish

·Stages 4-7 (July 8-11)—Northern France—Cauliflower fritter, beer-cheese sauce, and Belgian endive jam

·Stages 8-10 (July 12-15)—Alsace, France—Riesling braised onion, munster cheese, and bacon creme fraiche

·Stages 11-14 (July 16-19)—Alpes/Provence—Gruyere cheese, crispy scalloped potatoes, and black olive ratatouille

·Stages 15-17 (July 21-23)—Languedoc/Roussillon, France—Montpellier butter, grilled eggplant "nimoise," and Pelardon Cheese

·Stages 18 to 20 (July 24-26)—Southwest of France—Malbec ragout with duck and mushroom, cantal cheese, and tomato crispes

Each burger will cost $14.50 at lunch and dinner and $8 during happy hour (Monday-Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday-Thursday from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.).
