The owners of St. Anthony Main cafe Wilde Roast have expanded next door with Mattie's on Main, which officially opened over the weekend. The bar/restaurant's full name is a mouthful—Mattie St. Clair's House of Spirits on Main Street—and its website describes it as "a modern-day saloon." (Brief, bawdy history: It is named after a real-life Mattie St. Clair, who was a madam and brothel owner in the late 1800s and whose brothel was located near the new bar.)
There's no menu online yet, but the website promises "upscale pub food," craft cocktails, adult milkshakes, and 16 beers on tap. The 5860 square foot space also boasts a year-round patio and a stage for live music and entertainment. The owners—Wilde Roast co-owners Dean Schlaak and Tom DeGree, plus longtime friend Brian Gilligan—ran a successful Kickstarter campaign in April, which raised $40,392, with the money going toward improvements on the space, like the year-round atrium and a better sound system.
