Much beloved local brewery Surly Brewing Co. announced this morning that they have hired Jorge Guzman—best known for his gig as executive chef at downtown's Solera for the past three years—as executive chef at their upcoming mega brewery and taproom, which is scheduled to open in Prospect Park in early 2015. According to the press release, the "destination" brewery will boast a 300-person casual dining beer hall, a 100-seat chef-driven/craft-beer-inspired/full-service restaurant, a two-acre beer garden, and a 175-person events center,
Before Solera, Guzman worked briefly as chef de cuisine at Corner Table and also in the kitchen at the now-shuttered Tejas. He is also known for founding Farm in the Cities, a local event featuring farmers and chefs that raises money for local sustainable-food-focused causes like the organization Youth Farm. He also mentioned the now-obligatory fried chicken option to Mpls.St.Paul Magazine's Dara Moskowitz Grumdahl, but said he doesn't see it as a "staple" dish. Guzman will start at Surly in August of this year.
