The next phase of the ambitious restaurant takeover of the revitalized Soo Line Building from Russell and Desta Klein will open tomorrow. Foreign Legion is a swank spot with the kind of complimentary lighting that makes everyone look beautiful. A wine bar specializing in the esoteric wine choices from the Klein's longtime leader of their wine program first at Meritage and now inside Brasserie Zentral and this speakeasy-style spot, Nicolas Giraud.
The menu is designed to be shared, featuring small plates, some nearly impossible to find in the States cheese and gorgeous cured meats. Prosciutto, aged ham, and cured meats rest in a chilled cooler on display near the cherry red slicer waiting to spring into action. Klein told Eater that he's considering importing jamon from Spain for the spot. The cheese won't simply be slice and serve, Swiss style raclette will be melted on a hot griddle and draped over vegetables and accented with gherkins. There will also be a selection of fancy grilled cheese sandwiches.
In addition to the wine selection, Foreign Legion has a full liquor license with a fully stocked bar of top shelf spirits.
The room is intentionally shadowed with shag accentuated chandeliers and plush upholstery, perfect for dark souls with dark purposes (or simply wishing to escape the every day world).
Foreign Legion will be open seven days a week with a happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday with discounted drinks and food. Monday night will feature specials for hospitality industry workers and Social Sunday will feature classic movies, trivia nights and more.
