The Shutter: Tryg's Closing to Make Way for Condos

The restaurant has operated in the location for 10 years, but the family's history with this location goes back much further.

Tryg's

The location just past where West Lake Street and Excelsior split near Lake Calhoun has been a restaurant operated by the Truelson family since 1979. That was when Nora Truelson opened Nora's, a classic supper club that was known until their closing day for an early happy hour and flaky popovers. In 2005 Nora's was razed to make room for Tryg's, run by Nora's son, also named Tryge.

Today the restaurant announced that they would be cutting hours back dramatically. For the month of January, they will remain open from 4 p.m. to "close" Fridays and Saturdays. That means they have served their final brunch. The final day of business will be on January 31.
