Boxty, Bangers and Burgers: Dan Kelly's Reopens in Downtown Minneapolis

The only thing missing? Dan Kelly.

Under the stewardship of new owners Matty O'Reilly and Rick Guntzel (who also own 318 CafeRed River Kitchen and Republic) the classic downtown watering hole has been given a light facelift and a new menu. The duo purchased the bar from the original Dan Kelly in November.

Stephanie March of Mpls. St. Paul Magazine stopped by yesterday to give the menu a once-over. She reports that the room was mostly just scrubbed clean, but looks like new. Fewer light up beer signs and the removal of just a couple of TV's and the room's historic stained glass windows and comfortably worn booths welcome guests.

Keven Kvalston has been brought in as chef and redone the menu on which Irish cuisine reigns: smoked salmon boxty, colcannon with dill sauce and fish and chips are made with mostly locally sourced ingredients. (Click here for a full look.)

Expect to find more than just Guiness on the beer list as well (although, that is available.) These are the guys who stock some of the best taps in town. Expect to find plenty of local, craft beers and special ciders. The cocktails list to the whiskey side.

Dan Kelly's Pubis open daily from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
