What You Missed at This Year's Meritage Oysterfest 2015

A whole lot of mother-shuckers

Every October St. Peter Street is closed outside of Meritage andthousands of oysters are flown in from the coasts. This year, the lines flowed smoothly, as did the pints of Summit's oyster porter (brewed especially for the occasion.) Chefs in attendance, included Jose Andres, in town for the weekend. He was observed enjoying frites with his family and a rare bit of anonymity in the crowd.

The chef competition was fierce for the annual shuck-off. For the first time a crowd participant was included. Known simply as Renee, she went from front-of-the-oyster-class to competing side-by-side with area chefs.

In the end, Mike Brown took home the sash and the trophy for Travail Kitchen and Amusements and capped off the day with an Oscar-worthy acceptance speech.
