We can say we knew him when he was still called Pip. Phillip Hanson still went by the nickname when he left Minneapolis and his position as head bartender at The Bachelor Farmer/Marvel Bar this past spring. Now, just months after settling into London, Hanson has found a new, prominent position behind what is largely recognized as the best bar in the world.
Drinks International reports that Hanson has taken over the lead bartender post at Artesian, the bar inside the Langham Hotel. The bar has been named the best in the world for four consecutive years on the 50 Best Bars.
Hanson studied in Japan under Kazuo Uyeda at Tender Bar before returning home and unleashing a torrent of drink mixing talent on the Twin Cities. From Cafe Maude to Marvel, his minimalist technique and attention to detail forever changed the way we drink. His cocktail legacy includes the Oliveto and the Gatsby, two drinks that dance at the savory edge and play with texture, dilution and subtly.
The redesigned Artesian bar menu will debut in 2016.
