Heavy Table Slams Giordanos, The Alchemist and The Lex Edge Toward Opening Plus, Ice Cream!

Everything you need to know about Twin Cities eating today, July 24.

They have only been open a matter of days, but already Heavy Table's John Garland has filed his review of the Chicago based chain, Giordano's. It seems the Uptown pizza outposts' deep dish crust is an egregious affront to a pizza lover's palate. He reports, "...it’s as thick, structurally sound, and tasty as mortar." Meanwhile, the thin crust Margherita is "the truly asphyxiated canary in Giordano’s coal mine." Have you been? Hit us up in the comments and let us know what you think.

Mixologist extraordinaire Johnny Michaels is hiring for The Alchemist. His highly anticipated new drinking destination that is taking shape in White Bear Lake - which they continue to point out is only fifteen minutes outside of Saint Paul. Are they concerned that people find the suburb too far to drive for a craft cocktail?

Jess Fleming at the Pioneer Press offers an update on the continually delayed remodel of The Lexington. Co-owner Josh Thoma filled her in on all the structural updates that the elderly building required. It seems that the restaurant will re-open, at the soonest, in mid-November. A cocktail inside that historic bar does taste particularly satisfactory around the holiday season.

Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month? Who comes up with these things? For fans that can't wait until the State Fair, Sweet Martha is teaming with Izzy's to put her cookies you can eat by the bucketful into ice cream. The flavor is available in both Minneapolis and Saint Paul beginning Monday, July 27. Proceeds benefit the Twin Cities chapter of The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Can't wait that long for ice cream? Today you can get your frozen sweet Uber-ed to you. Open the app between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. today, set your location and slide over to ICE CREAM. 5 pieces of Izzy's ice cream treats will run you $20.
