Apple Valley is getting a Masu. The burgeoning local Japanese chain will open its third location at 14638 Cedar Avenue. This Masu will expand the noodle options, including Abura Ramen, a broth-less ramen dressed with seasoned oil and various toppings. The restaurant will open October 5.

Birch's on the Lake out in Long Lake will open Monday September 28. Stephanie March of Mpls./St. Paul Magazine was able to get a first look at the swank surroundings with the brewery in the basement. She describes the room as an easy mix of "retro and contemporary that doesn't feel too gimmicky."

Union Bar & Grill is now open. As we reported the post-Stewart Woodman era of the lower level at Union will be a sports bar. The menu includes dishes just right for pairing with beer and a game: firecracker shrimp, Cajun chicken Alfredo, mac and cheese bits and more.
