Ask, and you shall receive. Back in 2015, Eater Minneapolis gently suggested that Chicago fast casual chain Portillo’s, known for Chicago-style favorites like hot dogs and juicy Italian beef sandwiches, might want to consider opening up shop in Minneapolis’ Lyn-Lake neighborhood. It appears Woodbury will have to be close enough. For now.
Portillo’s just announced plans for the chain’s first Minnesota location on Hudson Road in the Eastern suburb. The location, one of several new spots planned across the country for 2017, is slated to open this summer.
Portillo’s CEO Keith Kinsey seems stoked about the expantion. “Portillo’s has grown from founder Dick Portillo’s original Dog House in the Chicago suburbs to 50 locations in 2017,” he said. “We could not be more excited that this momentous opening coincides with our first Minnesota location. Our entire team looks forward to bringing Portillo’s to the city of Woodbury.”
The restaurant will have a 1920’s theme in a 9,000 square foot space that will include double drive-thru lanes and a patio.
According to the news release, the Woodbury Portillo’s will have classic menu items like Chicago-Style Hot Dogs, char-grilled burgers, fresh salads, and Portillo’s famous Chocolate Cake.
