Once a year, Nadia Cakes, whose long list of accolades includes Food Network’s Cupcake Wars champions and inclusion in Buzzfeed’s list of Top 25 Cupcake Shops in the World That You Need to Visit Before You Die, celebrates April Fools Day with six funky cupcakes they call “look alikes.” Past flavors have included Sno-Cone, Kitty Litter and Broken Glass cupcakes. The shop, which has locations in Maple Grove and Woodbury, changes up its whimsical selections yearly, but the mainstay each year, the pièce de résistance if you will, is the Unicorn Poop. “The unicorn poop cupcake always steals the show,” says Abby Jimenez, owner of Nadia Cakes. The Unicorn Poop is actually a vanilla rainbow cake topped with vanilla icing grass and a handcrafted hard candy rainbow unicorn doo-doo. Unicorn Poop and most of the April Fools cupcakes are available in gluten free.
“This event is one of our busiest events of the year,” Jimenez explained. To avoid long lines, the event has been extended to three days this year and will run March 30 through April 1.
