Is Travail Building a Better Barbecue in Northeast?

James Winberg, Bob Gerken and Mike Brown of Travail

Is the team behind Travail planning to open a much-needed BBQ joint in Northeast Minneapolis? Well it sure seems that way. According to the Minneapolis / St. Paul Business Journal, the culinary team behind Travail, Pig Ate My Pizza and The Rookery filed a somewhat cryptic master planning use application for the space currently owned by James Winberg, a co-owner of Travail, at 816 Lowry Ave. N.E. The truly exciting piece is that it specifies Kansas-City style barbecue. Yes! Finally! Set to be equipped with a kitchen and meat smoker, the place will be take-out only. A public hearing will take place July 18. We’re crossing our fingers that this happens, and happens soon.
