The sophistication of the neighborhood coffeehouse only continues to grow. There's not one, but two coffeehouses planned to open later this year in Minneapolis and the taste-driven team have had success in other fields that have surprisingly little to do with coffee. Penny's Coffee will debut in Linden Hills and Washington Avenue in downtown and is the result of a partnership between Ben Hertz, Adam Roozen and Dean Phillips.
All come from success in their respective fields. Hertz made colorful shoelaces a fashion statement with Benjo's and co-founded CAMA Home, makers of dreamy cotton sheets. While Phillips is a well-known name for those who enjoy adult beverages. He's the scion of Phillips Distilling, who left the company for his own taste adventures. He is also the former chairman of Talenti Gelato. Roozen is the CEO of e-commerce agency Echidna.
Specific details on what the new coffeeshops will be like or serving are slim, but it's described as a design-driven concept that will partner with roasters La Colombe and Spyhouse.
The company is hiring and interested parties are invited to email people@pennyscoffee.com for more information.
