Update: The Smoking Cow has proudly advanced to the next level of competition and is currently in 6th place. Be sure and vote by Monday, September 26.

Thomas’® Breakfast Battle: Food Truck Edition launched on September 12, pinning 50 food trucks nationwide against one another in a battle to create signature breakfast recipes featuring Thomas'® English muffins or bagels. After five weeks and five rounds, a winning recipe will emerge. Each week, the field will be drastically narrowed, starting Monday, September 19.

The contest, which runs until October 16, includes Minneapolis’ own The Smoking Cow with their seasonally appropriate recipe for a Spiced Apple, Ham and Cheese English Muffin. The recipe features Red Table Meat Co.’s Ham Royale and Lone Grazer Creamery’s Grazer’s Edge cheese, as well as a kicky jalapeño and sweet apple jam. "We featured the sandwich at The Smoking Cow and people really enjoyed it," said Chef and owner Ian Gray. "This recipe comes from mad love and admiration for all things coming out of the Food Building. We have been working closely with Red Table Meat Co and Lone Grazer for a while and really appreciate their products."

Fans of The Smoking Cow can vote for their entry on the contest’s website. Readers can vote once a day for a chance to win $5,000 and free Thomas'® products. Only 25 trucks will advance after Monday, September 19, so vote now.

Smoking Cow is the second food truck from Chef Gray and his team. It hit the streets in May of this year, after the great success of its sister truck, The Curious Goat. Just like The Curious Goat, Smoking Cow prides itself on using locally sourced products and its tight relationships with local farmers and purveyors. While The Curious Goat operates solely out of Sociable Cider Werk’s parking lot, The Smoking Cow can be found at various Minneapolis breweries and other locations.
