The former chef at The Commodore will soon open his new project on the corner of Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue in Minneapolis. Chris Gerster has partnered with Michael Veazey to open The Hasty Tasty next month at 701 Lake Street.
The address was the long-time home to the Falafel King and has sat dormant since 2014 after that restaurant shuttered.
Gerster had worked with The Commodore’s owners at the University Club before the re-opening of the historic bar and restaurant in St. Paul’s Cathedral Hill neighborhood. Before that, he built up an impressive resume cooking inside the kitchens at Graze in Madison, Red Stag, Restaurant Alma, and the fine-dining incarnation of Levain.
The Hasty Tasty will serve American food utilizing a wood-fueled fire in the kitchen. The restaurant has partnered with local beverage experts Bittercube and the Better Beer Society to create the bar menu.

Look for an opening some time in November.
