Finally Minneapolis Is Getting a Cat Café

A lease is signed for The Café Meow

Kitty cuddles and a warm cuppa

The Café Meow will be opening at 2323 Hennepin Avenue with all the coffee, tea, snacks and furry cuddles the city needs. The project has been attempting to get off the ground since 2014. After faltering to find a location and an initial investor dropping out earlier this year, it appeared that hopes were dimming for the state’s first entry into the kitty coffee shop trend.

Now, the Mpls./St. Paul Business Journal reports that Café Meow’s owners Danielle Rasmussen and Jessica Burge have signed a lease for space at the ground level of the retail strip near 23rd and Hennepin that also includes Pizza Hut and Red’s Savoy.

The cafe will rotate rescue kitties through one section of the café in the hopes of helping find them forever homes. Sectioned off, another area will offer coffee, tea and a small bit of food. Coffee will come from Bootstrap roasters, tea from Northern Lights Tea and sweets from My Sister’s Sweet Shop.

Construction is moving forward. No opening date has been released at this time.
