Mike Rakun is best known for his healthful, tasty cuisine at Mill Valley Kitchen and the forthcoming Mercy in downtown Minneapolis. Now, the chef is opening a new breakfast and lunch restaurant on the Promenade development in Wayzata. The restaurant will be on the corner of Lake Street East and Promenade Ave.
Rakun is working with restaurant-friendly design firm, Shea to create an updated diner feel inside the new building on the suddenly restaurant-dense Lake Street. The chef knows the area well, his wife has family that live nearby. It seems locals are in desperate need of some daytime dining. The lines out the door for the newly opened Crisp & Green down the block, and Bellecour’s bakery are evidence of that.
The restaurant will feature an open kitchen, large bar and an easy-going nautical/country club kind of feel. We expect to be digging into these dishes before the end of boat season 2017.
Wayzata is experiencing a restaurant revolution of the moment. Gavin Kaysen just opened Bellecour just down the street. Baja Haus, a fresh Mexican concept from Sushi Fix’s owner Billy Tserenbat is set to open next week. Ryan Lund was recently announced as the new chef at a hotel restaurant at the end of Lake Street and Ryan Burnett’s fresh Crisp & Green restaurant opened a couple of months ago.
