The brand new vegan eatery on Selby Avenue and Victoria Street in St. Paul was overwhelmed by the excitement of customers for the new J. Selby’s. Just days after opening its doors for the first time, they abruptly closed them again after running out of product.
The entirely plant-based eatery first opened its doors on Monday April 17 and were delighted by the deluge of customers. On April 21, facing down what should have been its first weekend of service, the restaurant made the call to close for the foreseeable future. Taking to Facebook a statement posted just minutes after touting brunch service had them rethinking plans, “As we posted earlier, we thought we might be closing after brunch tomorrow so that we had time to prep for dinner, but we have recently realized that our opening week has left us at a place where we are unable to provide you all, our customers, with the service, the food, and the experience you deserve.”
The restaurant remains closed for today and has yet to release when it plans to re-open, but we can confirm that J. Selby’s will not be open tomorrow.
Meanwhile, comments on the page are overwhelmingly supportive and almost entirely positive. After the wildly popular launch of the Herbivorous Butcher and now J. Selby’s, it seems that vegan fare is in high demand from a patient, if hungry crowd.
We will follow the story as it develops and report when J. Selby’s is again open and serving.
