Don Saunders has made the decision to shutter his second restaurant the 510 Lounge inside the historic 510 Groveland building. The address was perhaps most famous as the former home to fine-dining jewel, La Belle Vie.
Saunders’ opened the slightly-more casual Lounge with private event space in July. The restaurant offered a caviar section on its menu and several fancy small dishes. When it opened, City Pages declared it immediately one of the classiest bars in Minneapolis. In an October review the Star Tribune lavished more praise on the space, saying it was worthy of its storied address and awarded it three out of four stars. However, the prices remained at fine-dining level and the service could be stiff when compared with the addresses predecessor.
Expressing regret about the closure, Saunders said his other restaurant, The Kenwood, would honor all 510 gift certificates.
