A sure sign that Minneapolis is firmly on the culinary map is the influx of celebrity chefs making certain to stop in the city for upcoming press tours. Over the next couple of months Nordic powerhouse Nordic chef Mangus Nilsson will be dropping by the American Swedish Institute, Ina Garten will drop by the State Theater pimping her 11th cookbook, and Daniela Soto-Innes will close out Spoon and Stable’s 2018 Synergy Series of dinners. Here’s how to nap tickets and how much these celebrity sightings will set you back.
Nordic Table Chef Series: All Over Fika, A Magnus Opus For The Nordic Baking Book
What: Magnus Nilsson is making his triumphant return to ASI to promote his newest baking book The Nordic Baking Book. To celebrate the internationally celebrated chef and authority on Nordic cuisine is throwing a bit of a baking party and a slew of local chefs are participating including Blake Meier of FIKA Café; Diane Yang of Spoon And Stable/ Bellecour; Solveig Tofte of Sun Street Breads; Scott Graden of New Scenic Café; Eva and Fari Sabet of the Swedish Crown Bakery; Carrie Riggs of Café Alma; Anne Andrus of Honey + Rye Bakehouse; Karyn Tomlinson of Corner Table; Steve Horton of Baker’s Field Flour & Bread; John Kraus of Rose Street Patisserie and Patisserie 46; Ky Guse and Mel Guse of GYST, among others.
When: Sunday November 4, 11:30am
What: If that’s not the right timing or ticket price for spending time with the Swedish chef and one time star of PBS’s Mind of a Chef, stop by the afternoon conversation with Nilsson and an opportunity to (probably buy) and get a book signed.
When: Sunday November 4, 3:30 pm
Cost: $15, general admission
Ina Garten, The Barefoot Contessa at the State Theater
What: Food Network icon and national treasure Ina Garten is swinging into downtown Minneapolis for an evening of conversation with an as-of-yet-unnamed moderator. Likely conversation starters: the Hamptons, Jeffery, impossibly fabulous florist couple friends, gardening with a peppering of “how easy is that?” refrains.
When: Wednesday Nov 28 at 7:30pm
Cost: $53.50/ $63.50/ $79.50
What: Gavin Kaysen’s continually tony fundraiser dinners at his flagship Spoon and Stable will close out the year with a dinner from New York’s famed Daniela Soto-Innes. Soto-Innes is the chef de cuisine at Cosme, and was instrumental in creating Atla. She has racked up awards like Eater NY’s Restaurant of the Year in 2015 and the James Beard Rising Star Chef award last year. According to her bio, “she believes that the simplest food can inspire the most imagination and makes her dishes meaningful by ‘finding the secret life in each ingredient.’” Cool.
When: Thursday and Friday December 6 and 7. Tickets are available now for $70 for reserved lounge seating.
