“One of the often overlooked things that separates a good from a great Cuban sandwich is the bread choice,” with that simple statement on its Facebook page, Guavas Cuban Cafe launched a thousand sandwich cravings. The new restaurant opens today inside the former address of Xavi restaurant on 5607 Chicago Avenue South in Minneapolis. The restaurant is owned by Frank Machado who had been operating the Twin Cities Paella stand at area farmers markets before landing the restaurant location.
The cafe will be open from 9 am to 3 pm daily at first, with designs on expanding to dinnertime in the future. Dishes include other Cuban classics in addition to the Cubano, a pork, cheese, pickle and mustard sandwich served on grilled bread that’s crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. Expect ropa vieja, picadillo, guava stuffed pastelitos and more.
