As if the blizzard wasn’t enough of a shock for the weekend, a couple of blundering burglars decided to desecrate Muddy Paws Cheesecake in a robbery this past Saturday that was particularly lacking in its incisiveness. Photos show the ransacked bakery at 7600 West 27th Street in St. Louis Park, with an appalling wake of damage left behind. Checkbooks and cash were stolen, and the burglars were so careless as to lock themselves out after breaking in through the roof. So they broke in a second time, through the glass of the front door.
The timing of this weekend’s thunder snowstorm adds insult to injury, as the burglars left a gaping hole in the ceiling. It snowed in the space all weekend. But the real injury is the timing as it relates to Muddy Paws’ flow of orders — just before wedding season begins, when Muddy Paws Cheesecake takes in the bulk of their seasonal business. The bakery also operates a seasonal cheesecake trailer, Camp Cheesecake.

Bakery owner Tami Cabrera says insurance won’t cover the damages.
It puts a damper on the sense of camaraderie a Minnesotan feels after a major snowstorm, helping neighbors push cars out from deep drifts of snow and sharing snowblowers to clear driveways. But there’s an opportunity here to keep community support alive. A Gofundme campaign has already raised over $15,000 with a goal of $20,000.
