North Loop’s Red Rabbit Closed After Fire

North Loop’s Red Rabbit, sibling restaurant to the popular Red Cow burger chain, had a hood fire this morning. The restaurant was closed for cleaning when, according to a report from KSTP, the hood caught fire. When fire crews arrived on scene there was heavy smoke and the blaze clearly started in the kitchen. No injuries were reported and the restaurant should be able to reopen as soon as they get the okay from the Health Department

At 9:58 am the Minneapolis Fire Department tweeted a report of a structure fire at 201 Washington Avenue North, Red Rabbit’s location. An hour later, the fire was extinguished and the all clear was given.

Employees will need to thoroughly clean out the space and discard all the food before restocking and re-opening for business, which could happen as early as this weekend.

Red Rabbit was opened in December 2016 by restauranteur Luke Shimp and chef Todd MacDonald. It specializes in pizzas, in a wood-burning oven, pastas, and salads. It is also highly regarded as a pre-Twins game stop thanks to the extensive cocktail list, 42 wines served by the glass and a large selection of beer.

A second Red Rabbit location is currently in the works on St. Paul’s Grand Avenue in the former Wild Onion location.
