This long-awaited soul food restaurant is finally ready to open at 11 am tomorrow, August 14th in Powderhorn. This pop-up turned restaurant is ready to serve grits and a whole lot more at its new location at 805 East 38th Street.
Inspired by his father and grandfather who both ran successful businesses in south Minneapolis, owner Jared Brewington’s roots in the historically black neighborhood go back five generations and flow into his food offerings. Several dishes are named after local icons like Prince and Bobby Marshall Burger, a Minnesota sports legend.
Funky Grits will serve contemporary soul food like biscuits and gravy, country ham, and plenty of grits. There will also be a handful of vegetarian options and vegan dishes, too, like the Mariachi grits served with avocado, black beans, roasted veggies, and tortilla strips—sans cheese.
The motto: “Where everyone is welcome, all the time, forever.”
