In Minneapolis, we have a lot of things: frigid winters that test the patience of even the most “Minnesota Nice” person; an abundance of grey squirrels and Lutheran churches; and, most importantly, a one-of-a-kind culinary scene. What Minneapolis may lack in big city bravado, it makes up for in cozy coffee shops that pour expertly-made lavender lattes, James Beard Award-winning chefs creating exciting and innovative cuisine, and more. Here’s how to spend 24 hours eating and drinking through Minneapolis.

8 a.m. - Spyhouse, 945 Broadway Street Northeast

This Twin Cities roaster, retailer and coffeehouse is the best place to scratch any caffeine itch. Any of the five locations serve fantastic cups of joe, but the Northeast cafe and roastery stands out. Set in a restored warehouse in the heart of a historic arts district, enjoy one of their trademark lattes or a fresh-brewed personal kettle of tea. Don’t forget to grab a bag of beans or a trendy tote as a keepsake.

10 a.m. - Our Kitchen, 813 West 36th Street

Even the biggest fans of designer brunches and mimosa flights can appreciate Our Kitchen - a tucked away breakfast nook in Uptown Minneapolis serving the best versions of diner favorites. Find a seat at their counter for a fresh cup of coffee, saucer-sized pancakes and crispy hash browns loaded with savory peppers, onions and cheese.

Noon - Pizzeria Lola, 5557 Xerxes Avenue South

Ann Kim’s pizza is the stuff of legends. The Minneapolis chef and restaurateur has won awards for her crispy, yet tender pizza crust and innovative toppings. Though their dining room is still closed due to the pandemic, make the most of the day by calling ahead, snagging a Korean barbecue pizza and a Mexican Coke for takeout and enjoying a cheesy slice at nearby York Park. Open for lunch Friday through Sunday.

4 p.m. - Indeed Brewing, 711 15th Avenue NE

A Midwest day trip doesn’t count unless there’s beer involved, and Indeed is brewing some of Minneapolis’ best. From hoppy double IPAs to CBD-infused citrus seltzers, Indeed offers a wide array of sudsy pints at their Minneapolis taproom. If the weather is nice, snag a seat on their dog-friendly patio and enjoy a brew.

7 p.m. - Hai Hai, 2121 University Avenue NE

This modern Vietnamese eatery is as adored by locals as it is by critics. Grab a seat inside their dining room decorated wall-to-wall with lush greenery or enjoy the ambiance of their outdoor patio complete with string lights and striking floral tablecloths. Sip on one of their seasonal spiked slushies while you feast on crispy shrimp toast, expertly fried tofu paired with a silky lime sauce and fresh, herbaceous spring rolls stuffed with pork sausage, pickled vegetables and crunchy egg roll wrappers.

10 p.m. - Gori Gori Peku Whisky Bar, 33 North 1st Avenue, Second Floor

In the heart of the trendy North Loop neighborhood, ascend the stairs at one of the state’s premier Japanese restaurants to find Gori Gori Peku - an upscale, intimate bar serving the finest Japanese whiskies and a comprehensive selection of spirits. End the night with a two-finger pour of the rich Nikka Coffey Malt whisky or drink as the Japanese do with a Suntory highball.
