Chef Brian Young, the self-proclaimed meat guy from Boston is heading to Saint Paul to take part in two pop-ups alongside his Top Chef Kentucky co-contestant Justin Sutherland. The first event is a butchery demonstration on Monday January 14 at 2:30 pm at Handsome Hog. Tickets are just $30 and will include snacks, beer, and wine.
The second event will take place inside the Handsome Hog. A tasting menu called Butcher & the Beast will serve a special hog that Beeler’s have raised just for Sutherland. “They fed it nothing but olive oil and walnuts,” said Sutherland.
Joining the TV stars will be local chefs Donald Gonzalez, who oversees Sutherland’s Madison Restaurant Group and Brandon Randolph, who is chef of Sutherland’s on the move restaurant Pearl & the Thief. These are the same chefs who also joined Sutherland in his triumphant Iron Chef battle lamb appearance.
Tickets for the Thursday January 17 dinner are $160. Reservations for both can be made by emailing events@madisonrestaurantgroup.com
The culmination of last week’s episode of Top Chef’s restaurant wars two part episode ended with a double elimination and it almost looked like our local guy, Handsome Hog’s Justin Sutherland might be going home, while chef Brian Young handily win with a chicken Ballentine.
