Meteor Bar from Robb Jones and Elliot Manthey is taking shape and staffing up in North Minneapolis. Tyler Kleinow, the industry leader at Marvel Bar for the past seven years, has departed that illustrious job to work with Jones and Manthey on this exciting, new venture. This means three bartenders from two of the best bar programs in Minneapolis are converging to make dive bar dreams come true.
Meteor Bar will open in the former Donnie Dirk’s/Stand-Up Frank’s location and serve a selection of boilermakers, reasonably priced drinks, and will only seat about 50 people. There will be a few snacks served, but mostly it’s all about those high-quality, affordably priced cocktails. Drink prices are expected to top out at $12 each. Look for an opening later this month. It will be open at 4 pm daily, except for Tuesdays, when the bar will be closed.
Jones last lead the bar programs at Spoon and Stable/Bellecour/Demi for Gaivn Kaysen’s Soigné restaurant group. Before that he ran the bar at Saffron, a spot that under his tender became a go-to hang for great drink appreciators. Manthey worked for Jones at Spoon and has also ran Cafe Maude’s bar program back in the day.
Kleinow has been an in-demand cocktail mastermind with a low-key presence, consulting on other bars like Stewart’s opening drink list in St. Paul.
