With the approaching V-Day and the short, cold days, every hearty Minnesotan deserves some kind of treat just for the triumph of actually getting out of bed each day. These are three different, delicious bakeries that have opened within the past year worth seeking out. From just-sweet-enough pan dulce to buttery cookies to adorable little cake pops, these bakeries have some to suit every sweet tooth.

Dulceria

In the fall of 2017, Dulce Monterrubio went from popular farmers market stand to full time bakery operator when Dulceria opened in the Standish neighborhood. Inside she sells pastries inspired by her memories of growing up in Mexico City. On Fridays, the pastry case is stocked (and often sells out) with vegan goodies. The bakery is also a popular spot for pop-ups, as Monterrubio supports other up and coming food businesses. During January’s wretched cold snap, the bakery’s pipes burst and a Go Fund Me page quickly raised over $3,000 to help get the bakery back up and running. The bakery will re-open with extended hours on Thursday February 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Que Viet

The restaurant that launched a State Fair sensation with massive, blistered, stuffed eggrolls has expanded to add a bakery to its Northeast location. The pastry case is stocked with colorful rows of pastel macarons, jazzy little cupcakes, artfully decorated cookies, and tantalizing cupcakes.

DelSur Empanadas/Criollas Pastries

All the delicious doughs are being filled with goodies in Minnetonka inside this little counter service restaurant where DelSur Empanadas opened a shop late last year. Argentinian empanadas are stuffed with all kinds of savory deliciousness like chorizo, sweet beef with green olives, sweet corn, and more. Plus, the new shop stocks the South American sweets from Criollas Pastries - which, until now, were only available in the warmer months at farmers markets. That means those alfajores cravings finally have an outlet. There are also quivery flan and tres leches cake stacks to consider.
