Pimento Jamaican Kitchen, ground zero for great Jerk in the Twin Cities has opened its first Saint Paul location months after first expected inside Keg & Case. The restaurant, which began in a suburban food court after a successful run on a Food Network show, has added the new location in addition to the current one on Nicollet Avenue. This spot was first expected to open along with the market back in the fall of 2018. There were several delays, an occasional food truck appearance, but finally this week the boards came down and this new walk-up spot was revealed.
Serving lunch, dinner, and into the night Pimento Jamaican kitchen has a tidy menu to begin with: Jerk chicken, pork, coconut rice, plantains and several sauces to choose from, along with a few other dishes. Once operations find footing, the menu should expand into dishes like oxtail, curried goat, and more.
Pimento Jamaican Kitchen began as the work of three friends who competed on a show called Food Court Wars on the Food Network. Winning the show gave them a year rent-free inside Burnsville Center’s food court. After winning the team set their sites on a location closer to the city center, eventually opening on Nicollet Avenue along a stretch known as Eat Street. From there they’ve added a food truck and a rum bar to the mix.
