Falls Landing, the new supperclub from chef JD Fratzke will open inside the Artisan Plaza on June 25. The restaurant is located inside a new food hall just off Highway 52. Falls Landing is already posting tempting dishes on Instagram, including pasta with lobster, potato puffs with broccoli under a tantalizing cheese sauce, and walleye with wild rice. Fratzke, the notable Twin Cities chef best known for using local ingredients and drawing on his Southern Minnesota roots for inspiration.
The restaurant is the final component of the already open casual restaurant, deli and market. The entire plaza is the vision of owner Dave Olson. Olson came to Fratzke with the idea of a road-trip worthy supperclub that brings back the glamor of driving down a rural road with a hearty meal and cold drink at the end of it.
Fratzke, a Winona native, has been an outspoken advocate for celebrating the wild things in Minnesota. Building this restaurant makes perfect sense for a chef that writes about the therapeutic importance of spending time in the wild. He’s also built a long list of farm partners to work with as suppliers.
Fratzke is perhaps best known as the soulful chef and co-owner of the Strip Club Meat & Fish, a beloved restaurant that was at the forefront of using grass-fed beef, and craft cocktails. It was often cited as one of the best restaurants in Saint Paul until its closure in the summer of 2017.
