Lucky Cricket, the Chinese restaurant/ tiki bar from celebrity chef Andrew Zimmern and restaurateur Michael McDermott, has closed unexpectedly for a remodel at the eight month-old eatery. In two Facebook posts on the 4th the restaurant first says, it was closing at 8 pm on July 4, but would return for regular business hours the following day. Another post published at 10 pm that same days says the restaurant is closed for remodeling and will re-open in two weeks.
Requests for comment from the restaurant and Zimmern’s reps were not immediately returned.
The restaurant opened under intense scrutiny as a video of Zimmern making controversial comments including, “I’m saving the souls of all the people from having to dine at these horseshit restaurants masquerading as Chinese food that are in the Midwest.” Since opening, the restaurant had struggled with consistency as crowds immediately descended on the restaurant.
Requests for clarification on what the remodel would entail were not immediately answered by the restaurant’s representatives. Shea, Inc. the restaurant design firm that worked on creating the eye-popping space is not involved in this remodel.
Have an absolutely wonderful Indepence Day everyone! We will be closing at 8pm tonight, and will be open for normal business hours tomorrow at 11am. Cheers! Have a safe and happy holiday!
