It appears Elephant Bar in St. Paul’s Lowertown has closed. The website says the closure is temporary, but messages have gone unanswered and the reservation line is completely shut down.

The ambitious bar and restaurant first opened in late April of this year by owner Nabeel Ahmad with chef Lucas Almendinger at the helm. The cocktails were put together by Jesse Held and Jeff Erkkila’s Earl Giles company.

The menu was global with just a touch of formality, aiming for comfortable, intimate dining.

Calls requesting comment have so far gone unanswered as to what comes next, if it will continue to be Elephant Bar or something else.
