Take-and-bake, heat-and-eat, whatever way you say it, Twin Cities restaurants have stepped up their game in terms of unique home “cooking.” This outside the box thinking has helped keep many eateries afloat during unprecedented times. Plus, it offers another option besides the usual suspects of takeout, curbside, and delivery.

Check out some of our favorites “heat-and-eats” in the metro area, sure to offer a lovely break from all the monotony of meal prep, grocery shopping, and washing dishes. And feel good about supporting local while you’re at it.

Parallel

These take-and-bake meals are actually called “coping mechanisms” on the menu, and that sounds about right. Order red coconut curry, adobo chicken, smoked mac and cheese, and more online.

Red Cow

All three locations of Red Cow, North Loop, Selby Avenue, and 50th Street, are offering four make-your-own-burger kits for at home, grilled perfection. Each kit feeds four people, so it’s perfect for a family, two meals for a couple, or one meat-loving single. Choose from the ultimate burger, blues burger, mushroom and Swiss burger, and Barcelona burger. Order online.

Colossal Café

Two St. Paul locations of this eatery offer take-and-bake selections. Comfort food faves like pot pies, ribs, and corned beef hash make this an extra special offering. Be sure to pre-order online for Thursday through Sunday pick up slots.

Foxy Falafel

Another great restaurant with heat-and-eat meal kit options is Foxy Falafel in St. Paul. Meals like chicken shawarma and numerous falafels feed two people. Falafel options include the classic foxy falafel, curry falafel, beet falafel, and stoplight which is one of each flavor. There’s also a combination foxy and chicken dish for the indecisive diner. Order online.

Red Rabbit

Both the North Loop and St. Paul locations of this un-fussy Italian spot boast some solid take-and-bake choices. Hungry diners will love the hearty pasta picks that feed four to six people. Options like Bolognese, lasagna, chicken Alfredo, spaghetti and meatballs , and chicken parmesan (chicky-chicky parm parm if you’re Tom Haverford) will be sure to delight. Numerous to go pizzas are also available, including the ever elusive vegan pie. On the appetizer front, classics like garlic bread, meatballs, and grilled kabobs (both chicken and steak) round out their offerings.
